best places to buy green tea

Green tea contains many health benefits, due to its large amount of antioxidants.  So where can you buy green tea?

The answer depends on whether you want loose leaf tea or tea bags.  Depending on which kind you want will determine where I would recommend to buy green tea.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, but I only recommend products I find trustworthy and you pay nothing extra.

Where to buy green tea in loose leaf form

1. Online stores

Loose leaf green tea can easily be bought at several online tea stores.  Some of the most popular places include Teavana, Upton Tea Imports, Adagio, Mighty Leaf Tea Company, Verdant Tea, English Tea Store, DavidsTea, Della Terra Teas, and Golden Moon Tea.

The prices at these stores can range from inexpensive to very expensive depending on the type of green tea that you buy.  Look out for coupon codes online to save on your purchase.  The benefit of these stores is they offer a very wide selection of teas.

2. Physical tea stores

Teavana and DavidsTea both have physical locations, so if you’re lucky enough to live near one, you can drive over and pick up a fresh batch of leaves.  You can also go to Whole Foods or Wegmans.

3. Local Natural Health Store

Every natural health store in my area sells loose leaf tea in cans, so this is another option for green tea.  Make sure the tea is stored in an airtight container, which helps prolong the health benefits of the leaves. It can also be found at Asian markets or Asian grocery stores.

Where to buy green tea in tea bags

If you’re not a tea connoisseur and just want your standard green tea bags, there are a number of places to buy green tea.  Keep in mind your average tea bag only contains leaf fragments and dust and loses much of its benefits and flavor.

1. Supermarket

Almost all supermarkets have an aisle containing green tea bags.  They should have brands by Bigelow, Celestial Seasonings, Lipton, and more.  I used to buy decaffeinated Lipton Green Tea due to its claim of containing 130 mg of flavonoids per serving.  I would recommend avoiding any bottled green tea.

2. Local Natural Health Store

Your local health store should certainly carry all types of teas such as green tea bags.

3. Online

If you want to buy green tea bags, there are a number of online retailers.  I would recommend Amazon.com or eVitamins.com.

If you really want the health benefits of tea, but are still set on tea bags, then look for tea bags with loose leaf tea inside.  Some of the more popular are Rishi Tea, Might leaf Tea, and some types of Tazo teas.  Stores are starting to sell what are called pyramid bags, which allow for larger leaves in the bags resulting in more flavor and higher quality.

While bagged teas are certainly more convenient, loose leaf tea normally always wins with taste, health benefits, and selection.  Additionally, loose leaf tea can last longer if it is stored properly in an airtight container.
