Pearl Jasmine Dragon Phoenix White Tea Review

Now that I’ve announced I’m a tea lover, I find myself receiving tins of tea as gifts from my friends, and I’m not complaining.

I just recently received Stash Private Reserve Loose Leaf Teas, which contained a container of Pearl Jasmine Dragon Phoenix White Tea by the Stash Tea Company.  I’ve never tried jasmine tea, so decided to try it out.

The Stash Tea Company is based out of Oregon.  You can find their teas in grocery stores, online, natural food stores, tea shops, and more.  It has now become one of the largest specialty tea companies, and this is my first tasting of their teas.

What is Pearl Jasmine Dragon Phoenix White Tea?

These are high quality white tea leaves that have absorbed and been scented with the fragrance of jasmine flowers, and then are handrolled into the size of a pearl size ball.  This tea comes from the mountainous regions near the border of the Fujian and Jiangxi provinces of China.  When the pearls are added to hot water, they unfurl and release their flavor and scent.

If you can brew this tea in a clear glass container to watch the pearls unfurl, it is fun to watch.

Jasmine White Tea Pearls

What do the pearls smell like?

The smell of jasmine takes over these tea pearls, so if you like jasmine, you should love this tea.  To me, jasmine smells sweet and floral (it is a flower after all).  The smell of jasmine is said to help calm the nerves and is also used in aromatherapy.

What does the tea (liquor) smell like after brewing?

It pretty much smells the same as the pearls with a strong jasmine scent.

What does Pearl Jasmine Dragon Phoenix White Tea taste like?

It tasted very light and subtle and definitely had a floral flavor from the jasmine.  You can taste the white tea underneath it, which normally has a delicate flavor.  I didn’t notice any bitterness, so I could see a non-tea drinker really enjoying this tea.  From what I have learned about tea tasting, we all have different ways to describe the taste and flavor of teas, so don’t just take my word on it.

How should I brew the tea?

On the directions, Stash Tea Company recommends to brew it between 170-190 degrees Fahrenheit for 2-4 minutes.  I brewed my first and second steep at 175 degrees for 3 minutes.  I am going to continue to play around with the temperature and steep time.  I may even try making an iced tea out of this one.

Overall, I would recommend this tea to anyone who enjoys a lighter tea and enjoys the taste of jasmine. Check out Stash Tea on Amazon.
